Theatrics/Visuals - a wee bit-o confession
U2's One is one of the few few songs that can stop me in my tracks and turn me into a docile, heart-swelling, starry-eyed piggy. So of course I was overcome with glee when I heard those distinctive guitar riffs that announced the performance to come. My happy trance was disrupted by Mary J's pounce onto the stage with her insistence of declaring the lyrics instead of singing them. Now, I love Mary J. but this ain't no aerobic class! There are some songs when this "declaration" style works, but musically, it does not work with One. And I know a lot of people heralded Mary J's duet with Bono but it just ruined the song for me.
