Visuals/Gook Alert - proliferation of the china doll
Typical tourist destination in one of those "exotic" East Asian locales. The usual "local" arts'n'crafts being hawked. (Ok, aside from the Tin Tin posters and the irregular/overstocked/faux A&F clothes. What do u expect? The ever shrewd Asian tiger/dragon never fails to meet market demand 24/7.)

Oh looky looky. What's that? Modern artistic renderings of our ancestral sisters! (Do note that no paintings of men are sold. Whities only like to lap up docile versions of our women. Is Zhang Zi Yi's current popularity so astonishing?) Now turn your attention to the piece on the bottom right corner: a better example of the meld'n'weld of East and West that my people have an exceptional talent for - some sort of Emperor Ching/Ming-Genghis Khan's mistress meets Millais's Ophelia and Waterhouse's Shalott. Ingenious, don't ya think? I love it when the entrepreneur spirit rises up and beyond and gets creative! Make Daddy Trump proud!

The last time I perused through Nat Geo's cover of Northern China and/or Mongolia, the women didn't look members of Mattel's "Dolls of the World" series. Ahhhh crapola! I feel an identity crisis coming on!!! *wah!*

Nicely pointed out. I tend to think most people (particularly the North American touristy types) don't notice this.
Where were these pictures taken, by the way?
Absolute Zero
You're right, they don't notice this b/c they're completely entranced by those iconic-in-whitey's-eyes delicate oriental flowers. Under our spell dearie ;)
Stanley Market, Hong Kong.
